Astera Technologies began with a clear observation: computing is reaching its limits. As AI continues to scale, traditional electronic systems are increasingly constrained by heat, energy, and architecture. Photonic computing offers a path forward, but without a manufacturable substrate, it remains confined to the lab. We founded Astera to bridge that gap, developing graphene-based substrates that allow photonic systems to move from theory into real-world deployment.

By controlling the full process from low-cost carbon inputs to wafer-ready, photonic-grade substrates, we ensure consistency, manufacturability, and integration with existing foundries. This positions us at the foundation of the ecosystem, supplying the layer every photonic chip depends on.
